From Ferguson to Brazil…Hundreds of people demonstrated on Friday in several cities of Brazil about the high and increasing rates of violent death recorded in the country’s Afro-descendent population. An academic study called The Color of Homicides in Brazil revealed in 2012 that while homicides of white people decreased by 24.8 percent between 2002 and 2010 (from 20.6 to 15.5 percent of the total population), homicides against black people reached 36 percent in 2010, a 5.6 percent increase from 2006.
The small city of Jennings, Mo., had a police department so troubled, and with so much tension between white officers and black residents, that the city council finally decided to disband it. Everyone in the Jennings police department was fired. New officers were brought in to create a credible department from scratch.
The same might happen to the Ferguson Police Department when this is all said and done. It should really.
